Description

This splendid David Tsikewa 5 strand necklace features 160 beautifully carved birds, bears and foxes. Circa: 1960's. Beautiful sky blue Natural Morenci turquoise makes this a bit more special, as natural turquoise with matrix was difficult to carve and took a special talent to work around the matrix.

David Tsikewa was a renowned Zuni fetish carver that was active from the 1930s through the 1970s. For most of his career he worked with CG Wallace and later with Trader Leon Ingraham. It is said that David Tsikewa and Leekya Deyuse were Wallace's two favorite carvers. David's fetishes were so beautifully carved it was apparent he was a master at his craft! David always used black pine tar for the eyes, as was done centuries earlier.

The necklace and earrings are strung with hand crafted Santa Domingo olive shell heshi. The total length is 32" long. The earring are 1 3/8" long including the silver post.
